What is divorce mediation?
In divorce mediation, you and your spouse or, in some cases, the two of you hire a neutral third party, called a mediator, to meet with you in an effort to discuss and resolve the issues in your divorce. The mediator doesn't make decisions for you, but serves as a facilitator to help you and your spouse figure out what's best. Please understand Divorce Mediation is not therapy. It is not a service covered by insurance. It is the process of facilitating a divorce and creating a document that will be reviewed by the courts in the divorce process.
Is mediation right for you?
Mediation is effective when a couple begins an uncontested divorce and wishes to:
- Minimize the anger, hurt and hostility that can be part of the process, and the emotional effect on their family.
- Develop a sound parenting plan for children.
- Ensure dignity, privacy and control during the divorce process.
- Develop an equitable, comprehensive financial plan, andSave significant money.
The Mediation Process
Meetings held with the couple and together we create an agreement that works for both parties. Once an agreement has been reached, I prepare a Memorandum of Understanding , which is then reviewed by you and your attorneys to assure it accurately reflects your wishes.
The mediation process works more quickly and economically than traditional methods.
